Hip-to-Gable Conversion
Perfect for Semi-Detached Homes
Transform your sloped hip roof into a vertical gable wall, creating significantly more usable loft space for bedrooms or home offices.
Reclaim Your Loft's Hidden Space
Semi-detached and end-of-terrace homes often have a "hip" roof—where the side slopes inward. This dramatically reduces usable loft space. A hip-to-gable conversion straightens this into a vertical wall.
Combined with a rear dormer, this creates a spacious loft with full standing height from wall to wall. Ideal for master bedrooms with en-suites, or two separate rooms.
- Ideal for semi-detached properties
- Often under Permitted Development
- From £60,000 fully fitted
- 10-12 weeks build time

Hip-to-Gable Questions
A hip-to-gable conversion extends your roof outward by building out the sloped (hip) end into a flat vertical wall (gable). This reclaims the triangular space lost to the inward slope, dramatically increasing usable floor area.
Usually not—hip-to-gable extensions typically fall under Permitted Development rights provided they don't exceed the highest part of the existing roof. However, conservation areas and listed buildings have different rules. We check during our free survey.
Combined with a rear dormer, a hip-to-gable typically creates 30-40sqm of new floor space—often enough for two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom. The exact amount depends on your roof's dimensions.
